I have owned my own business and have been my own boss since I was 22 years old. 2019 was a time when I was completely and utterly burnt out owning a business. I was uninspired, tired, and frankly very depressed. It seemed like I was having 3-4 panic attacks every week. I was miserable. Looking back there were several factors that contributed to this bout of depression and burn out. But in the midst of it; I just wanted out. I wanted to give it all up.
Owning a business is WILD; the ebbs and flows, the ups and downs, never knowing (without any doubt) that a paycheck was coming in at the end of the day. Cyclical. Seasonal. I didn’t know what stability felt like and I wanted it. The grass is always greener on the other side, right?
Enter the opportunity to work at a stable, set schedule job with a guaranteed paycheck every two weeks. It was a whole new world for me. In September I accepted a new full time position. When I started this job I still had a full session load at EKP. The stress did not dissipate immediately; I knew it wouldn’t. I worked all the way through the Christmas season with two full time jobs.
After all of that I’m probably going to sound like a crazy person. We have a club. We call ourselves entrepreneurs.
Since December 14 I have photographed 3 headshot sessions and 1 portrait session. Minimal creative work for me. I needed to step away to figure it out. I have had time to think. And I am excited to tell you all that I have made the decision to come back to the studio full time.
With all of that being said, we have opened up spring and summer booking.
I live my life for the experiences. I will never regret taking time off or away from the studio. I needed that time away to realize that EKP is what I was born to do.
I’m excited to be back, friends!
